Freshman

This year was just a begining for me. First time being in the real workouts, first time racing in the real races, no more of the short middle school boys and girls races. I really started here, I was able to run with the first people to really make this team become nationally noticed. That was awesome for me to see and it really inspired me to be that much more of a better runner. Also during this year I broke the Freshman Records at my school in the 800m, 1600m, and the 3200m.

Sophmore

This year I was really apart of the Varsity team. For cross country I was mainly 6th guy, but sometimes 5th. I really was able to learn a lot from all of the seniors and really connect with them. We took Region and State and I metaled in some of the races which was kind of a new thing for me. Then, in track I was one of the top 4 distance guys on the team and was scoring points every race. I really improved on my times, but not enough to get any class or school records. But, I did individually win a race and that was awesome. I qualified for the 3200m and 1600m at state and took 3rd and 5th. And it was really a good improvement from last year.

Warmed up and by the time we got back the girls race was pretty much over and only had enough time to grab my spikes, put them on and get to the line. At that time Jaiden comes down the steps without his spikes on so he gets lucky and the guys waits for him. So, I did a stride and that was all the pre race stuff I did. The gun goes off and I got out really well. After the 100m mark everyone else tried to get out and I got shoved by a couple people and lost my footing and almost fell off the track and on to the field. But I ended up catching myself before I tripped. I followed the rest of my team and Garek out of that crowded area. Came through the first 400m at 1:10 which was really slow. My next lap was pretty much a blur except for the last 100m when I tried to surge around a woods cross guy and he moved right in front of me and slowed down. I got upset, but just side stepped out of the way. I also missed what time I came across the line. The next 400m sage started to surge and I went with him and I also missed my time for that lap. But the last 400m all the desert hills guys were by each other. And at 200m to go I gave it everything I got to pass sage and did, but at 100m he passed me back and I tried to go with him. That didn't workout quite as well as I thought it would. Got gassed by Eric Lambert at the line so whatever. But, finished at a 4:30 and that's a PR so I state qualified. It was a really good race. Did a little barefoot cooldown afterwards.

Started the warmup at a pretty decent time. Took a GU and that was new for me. Did a two mile warmup and that was pretty good. Got back in time to get my spikes and put them on and actually do some pre race stuff. Did a couple strides and got on the line. I got out really well and stuck with the rest of the guys. I kinda treated the race like a tempo run and started out just hitting a pace. And I felt really good sticking with that pace and was pretty consistent throughout the first mile. Hit around a 4:45. And I kept the same pace for the next lap. I started to fall back just a little bit and pushed it just enough to get loser to the next pack. The last two laps I knew I needed to do something quick. So when Jaiden slowed down, josh pushed it and I also pushed it. And soon after Jaiden pushed it past me. On the last lap I just went hard and so did josh and that really helped me to go even harder. I passed sage and continued to go. I could hear him right behind me so I didn't want to slow down. At about 100m I continued to go hard and was right on Josh's heels and and passed him at the line. I PRed by .4 of a second so... But a PR is a PR so I can't be too mad. So I stretched just a little bit and went on a cool down. I thought that it would take a little longer to get all of the times figured out. But they didn't and they called the top five people to the podium and I wasn't there to be on the podium and that wasn't cool of me to miss and didn't mean anything by it. But even though I didn't get a big PR I still have to take the positives.

3 miles this morning.

Started today with a 2 mile warmup and then came back and cheered on the girls in their 800. But when I started my 800 I got out really well with Josh right next to me and then at the 150m mark he fell back and  I continued to push up with the guy in front of me. I crossed 400m at 58 and I felt really good. I was in second place and continued to push up. With 300m left a guy from behind me passed me and I tried to go with him and did for a bit. Then Josh and Jaiden passed me and I went so hard, as hard as I could to finish with a good time and with 150m left my legs hurt felt so tired and I knew that I would be close to the time I wanted. I finished with a time of 2:02 and was only 2 seconds away from state qualifying, but it was great for the first 800 of the season. It was a 4 second PR. Overall it was good to see what I could do over a short distance.

6.5 miles with Sage we found ourselves in Bloomington and we also found a Tennis Ball and tested our skills by kicking the Tennis Ball on the bridge and tried not to drop it. And we didn't. But finished the run with 10x:30 seconds and that felt really good but my legs were still tired from Thursday.

7.5 miles total. .5 mile warmup with calisthenics and then a 2 mile warmup. We had some strides then 10x400m the first 4 were at 1:06-1:07 and the second 4 were at 1:04-1:05 then the last two were all out. I hit 1:08, 1:07, 1:07, 1:06, 1:07, 1:07, 1:06, 1:03, 1:08, 1:06. So I went way too fast way too early in the workout. But after the 400's we had 4x150m and 1 mile cool down with yoga afterwards.

7 miles total this afternoon, .5 mile warmup, 6 miles through the armory and down rainbow road. Finished with 8x100m. I also helped out with the kinderfreshman race. One of the kinderfreshman 4x100m race teams didn't have enough teammates so me and a couple other people stepped up and I raced it. I also ran barefoot on the track.

3 miles in the very early morning,we started and Kasey eventually caught up to us and scared all of us.

4 miles out to the spectrum, felt really good. Finished with 4x200m finishes, on the first two felt good and the next one my right knee hurt a little bit and on the second one my knee hurt less. It's probably just stretching so I'll just ice it and it will all be good.

Started out with a 2 mile warmup with Josh, then I watched the girls race and jogged around a little more because it took a little longer for the meet to actually start. Did some calisthenics and then put my spikes in and did some strides. When I got to the line they still weren't quite ready so I did one more set of strides and got back to the line. I was lined up right next to Nick Hill and Eric Lambert. Got out really well, I was right behind Nick and just stuck on him, ran into some trouble at the 200m I got tripped up but caught myself and kept on the lead pack. Ran through the first lap at 1:07. Felt really good because that was right around my goal pace. Hit the next lap at 1:08 and then I started to quicken my stride and at about 600m to go I was right behind Eric and at the 500m left I passed Eric and just went for it. I was feeling really good at this point and then at about 250m left Eric passed me back and then we went into the wind. I stuck right behind him until 150m left and then just ran as hard as I could and he was right on my heels and then we were right next to each other and went back and forth for the lead and I knew I still had something left and just went for it and crossed first, but I knew that I went guts out when after the race I had a hard time taking my shoes off.

10 miles this morning with coach and Jaiden. We ran next to the freeway just out by Warner Valley heading out towards Hurricane. And it was really good to get out and shake out the legs. After the run I chilled for a couple hours and then went over to the meet to help out. I had plans of cheering on more than just Josh but oh well.

3 miles this morning. Ran with Coach Powell so I could get an earlier start to my day. I had to take a test I missed for the race last Friday.

Started with a .5 mile warmup and calisthenics. Then, 7 miles through the Super Bowl then through the armory and the riverbed. After we escaped those places we went to the park to get a drink found a basketball and Jaiden, Sage, Matt and I balled it up for a little bit. Actually we got left by the rest of our group because we balled it up for so long. Strides and stretch afterwards.

3 miles this morning.

.5 mile warmup and calisthenics. 2 mile warmup, strides and then I was supposed to do 5x1000m but ended up doing 4x1000m and 1x800m because I hit my times for the first 2 1000m but the other 2 I was behind by a lot. I think that it was mostly because I was dehydrated, my knee feels a little jacked up, and my legs were just tired. I don't know but I'll be back and ready for this weekend. But we also did 2x300m and 2x150m and finished with a mile cool down. I ran with Josh and got dropped in the cool down mile by Sage and Boston. But, it is scientifically proven if you beat someone in the cool down you will beat them in the race. So good luck to them. Stretched afterwards.

Showed up and met up with the guys, before we went on a warmup we jammed out to the usual Run by AWOLNATION. And then went on a 1.5 mile warmup and then jogged around the turf to ensure that we didn't miss this race. Did some calisthenics and cheered on those who raced before me. And then got to the line and was behind Jaden and a guy from Ogden. It was super windy and for the first mile I felt really good. And I think I went out a little too fast for it being a little windy. But after the first mile the guy from Ogden really picked it up. And at that point he was in front and Jaiden was right behind him and I was right behind Jaiden. But I fell back just a little bit and was stuck in the wind for the second mile and i got passed by two people on the last lap but I finished in 5th and still finished with a 9:44 so that was ok.

I didn't get a lot of rest in between the 3200m and the 800m but went on another warmup/cooldown and after that I did calisthenics and cheered on my teammates who were racing and then when I raced I was in  lane 7 to start and I got out well I was right behind Nick Hill and I crossed the 400 at 59 and then died the second lap and finished at a 2:03 so I wasn't super happy about that but whatever. I'm not even sure what my overall place was for that. I finished with a cooldown with Boston and stretched and left the meet. Overall I think it gave me some confidence because there was a lot of wind so hopefully next week I can get some big PRs.

8 total. .5 mile warmup, calisthenics, 2 mile warmup, strides, 3x3:00m with surges (each about 1000m) and inbetween each 3:00m we had a pretty much all out 400m. After that we finished with 2x200m finishes. Cool down for mileage. Felt petty ok today, but I just need to hydrate more.

3 miles in the morning.

10 miles towards the Quartz Mine and an adventure it was. Felt really good, slightly flat from yesterday. Talked with Sage and Boston for the part of the run. After the turn around I started to talk to Jaiden and I could hear a rattle but ignored it. As it got louder I saw it was a rattlesnake and pretty much hurdled it. Jaiden did the same but turned around to look at it. However, I wasn't going to be that stupid. I got out of there and stopped about 50m away from where everyone else was. Needless to say I was a little paranoid for the rest of the run.

6 miles total. .5 warmup with calisthenics, and a 2 mile warmup, strides, and the workout. Which was, 3 sets of 1x600m and then 1x400m. On the first set I felt pretty ok hit my time for the 600m barely and then missed my time for the 400m by 4 seconds. Next set I hit my 600m time and then hit my 400m time. The last set I hit my 600m time and then got a little bit of a headache, and then was 2 seconds off of my 400 time. Finished it off with 2x150m and then cool down for mileage. Felt ok today, I hit my times so it wasn't a bad day. Figi McAlpine afterwards.
