Freshman

This year was just a begining for me. First time being in the real workouts, first time racing in the real races, no more of the short middle school boys and girls races. I really started here, I was able to run with the first people to really make this team become nationally noticed. That was awesome for me to see and it really inspired me to be that much more of a better runner. Also during this year I broke the Freshman Records at my school in the 800m, 1600m, and the 3200m.

Sophmore

This year I was really apart of the Varsity team. For cross country I was mainly 6th guy, but sometimes 5th. I really was able to learn a lot from all of the seniors and really connect with them. We took Region and State and I metaled in some of the races which was kind of a new thing for me. Then, in track I was one of the top 4 distance guys on the team and was scoring points every race. I really improved on my times, but not enough to get any class or school records. But, I did individually win a race and that was awesome. I qualified for the 3200m and 1600m at state and took 3rd and 5th. And it was really a good improvement from last year.

3 miles in the morning. Today we ran The Spectrum it was colder but felt way nice.

Six miles easy after school and before the meet, helped with the meet setting up and being in the chute. Best part of helping out was when some lady tried to cross as the runners were coming across the line and stopped right in front of a runner coming across. I'm just happy that it didn't happen to me. Let's hope I didn't jinx myself.

3 miles in the morning to Hidden Valley Park and back getting ready for the race at 8:30.

I showed up at the race at 7:00 to watch the 1500m for the decathlon and that was a lot of fun to watch. I got nervous because there was a lot of wind and it was getting cold quick. Started warming up at 7:45 and it was good pace to get ready for the race had great topics of conversation. As we got back we did some calisthenics and some strides. Got to the line next to Tanner Sharp and Alex Hill. As we were on the line I could hear Kale Sharp announced just before the race. As the gun went off I cut in as much as I could I was right behind Tanner and Alex was way ahead of him. As I continued to race, I felt great. Around lap 3 I was just behind Tanner and I pushed ahead of him and keep that for only a little while and Tanner passed me with 300m to go and I tried to kick and go for the gold. At about 150m I passed a Pine View guy and that put me in 3rd. Although not for long, because my kick didn't help me and finished in 4th, with a time of 4:40. Not exactly what I wanted but it is good for now.

Went up to Ceder's SUU track to do a workout. 2 mile warm up then 2x400m, 3x800m, 3x300m, 2x150m, finished with a 1 mile cool down. Hard altitude training, but really fun.

3 miles in the morning.

In the afternoon ran at The Panther Relays. First I ran the Distance Medley I ran the 800m at approximately 2:10. That still needs a little imporvement. Then had some fun and ran the Hurdle Relay and the hurdles were super high. And I thought that I was going to kick then down. But luckily I made it out okay. After that I watched the open 1600m race, after that I raised the 4 x 400 m and in my heat we were in last but I ran a 61 and only got the second to last. Finish with some mileage.

3 miles in the morning. Ran the Spectrum, nice cool temperatures except for the wind that keeps ruining things.

6 miles in the afternoon. Tried to keep it flat. During the run we reminised of past memories of DHHS alumni and legends. We also talked of things in the near future which gets me pretty excited. Getting pretty stoked for races coming up quickly.

3 miles in the morning. Today is the Desert Hills invite and today I Run the 1600m.

As I left school at 2:00 I was super nervous for the 1600m. Today my only goal was to break the Freshman 1600m Record was held by Josh Thatcher who ran a 4:37. As I got to the track I checked the list of who was racing and the times that they were projected to run. I found my teamates and got on a warm up. As we got back we saw the first race of the girls and did strides and calisthenics while that was going on. As I got to the line I wasn't next to Tanner Sharp as I normally am, but I was a couple of spots down from Jaden Melendrez. The gun goes off and about 75m later the gun shoots again, and we start again. I don't think I got enough strides in so it helped I think. The first lap went out strong at the pace I wanted 1:08, second lap not as strong 1:10, the third lap was the same 1:10, and finished at a 1:08. My finish I probably own the thanks to Spencer Neiville who was just ahead of me and I thought to myself "I can catch him, I can catch him!" And with less than a foot left I passed him, beating him by .08 of a second. Finishing with a total time of 4:36 and the freshman record. I felt great throughout the whole race and now need to cut down a couple seconds within the last couple races.

This morning woke up not really feeling 100%, nose a little stuffy and throat a little sore, but none the less still went and raced looking to beat my last time from the Pine View Invite. As I got there I went to the finish line area and found Sage, as we waited for the rest of those racing to start our warmup we walked around and tried to stay warm because the morning was cold. When everyone had arrived we left for a warmup and it was probably too early for a warmup but we went on one anyways. When we got back didn't do nearly enough calisthenics or strides. As the race was about to start and I lined up in front of Sage, whom I teased about this, in Ally 2 he went out and I felt pretty good. The first mile was a 4:56, which was what I wanted, the splits were 1:14, 1:14, 1:12, and 1:16, which weren't bad. But the second mile was 1:16, 1:17, 1:20, and 1:16. Not my best race, but it was something that needed to happen for me to progress.

This morning I got to the track early enough that I wouldn't miss my race because I have never ran an 800m race before. But, I got ready by watching the 3200m race and singing some Alt-J with Boston and Sage. I got some wisdom about the 800 from Kale and Josh about how the race goes and just some basics. I went on a 2 mile warmup and when I got back I was really nervous because I had a couple of things I wanted to accomplish today, first being break the freshman 800m record (2:07), second beat Alex Hill and his PR (2:05), accomplishing these things would put me at the fastest freshman in the state in the 800m. As I got to the line I was next to Alex and we wished each other good luck and did our things. As the gun shot we went out at what seemed really fast because I am used to the 3200m and 1600m. Hit the first lap at 61, and the second lap at 65. And at the 100m mark Alex was on my heels and I had to push myself as hard as I could just to stay ahead of him, I finished at 2:06. This put me at breaking freshman record, but put me behind Alex for second. I am felling a little Second Hills like...

3 miles in the morning to shake the legs out.

As we got to the race I figured that I was racing last, so I rested and then I went on a warmup. We went about a mile then on the announcement the person said that fast girls then fast boys would race. So I was rushing to get my spikes and then they said that they were going to go back to the original plan. So I was rushing for nothing. I had already started to run around the turf to get some more of my warmup in. When the third group of boys were gonna my to the line I started my striders and then Sage said to me "That is Alek Parsons" and I was super ready for the race because it was going to be fast with the Ogden runners in the race. Felt really good, maybe too good... 1:07, 1.10, 1:10, 1:09. For a 4:36. Not to shabby, but another 1600m at region.

Got to the meet at about 8:30 and met up with Kale. We then waited for Sage and after he showed up we left for our warmup. We got the bike paths in front of the school. During our warmup Sage stop for a couple moments, but me and Kale kept running as we kept running Alek Parsons and the other Ogden guys past us. Sage was still behind us and when he caught up to us Kale said to him " Now all of the Ogden runners think your the slowest out of all of us!" That was pretty funny. But we got back to the track and continued to jog, do calisthenics and some strides. When we got to the line I was surprised to stand in the third spot with two Ogden guys to my left and two to my right and both Kale and Sage just outside of them. While the names were still being called I was able to talk to the Ogden guys and tell them where I was from and listen to them trash talk each other. As the race when off I was a little stuck, but nothing really bad. I did however see Alex and the rest of Pine View start off running up with Alek Parsons. As things went on the first laps weren't great 1:15 and 1:12. Not what I really was shooting for first too slow then too fast. But, around the third and fourth laps Kale caught up with me and from then out I tried to stick on him. Throughout the next two laps I was successful. Lap 7 killed me, with a 1:17. Sage and Eric caught me. I decided that I was going to finish with sage and not let anyone else pass me. Finished at a 9:54. Cooled down 2 miles and finished with running circles in the small skating place on the hill.
