Freshman

This year was just a begining for me. First time being in the real workouts, first time racing in the real races, no more of the short middle school boys and girls races. I really started here, I was able to run with the first people to really make this team become nationally noticed. That was awesome for me to see and it really inspired me to be that much more of a better runner. Also during this year I broke the Freshman Records at my school in the 800m, 1600m, and the 3200m.

Sophmore

This year I was really apart of the Varsity team. For cross country I was mainly 6th guy, but sometimes 5th. I really was able to learn a lot from all of the seniors and really connect with them. We took Region and State and I metaled in some of the races which was kind of a new thing for me. Then, in track I was one of the top 4 distance guys on the team and was scoring points every race. I really improved on my times, but not enough to get any class or school records. But, I did individually win a race and that was awesome. I qualified for the 3200m and 1600m at state and took 3rd and 5th. And it was really a good improvement from last year.

Today I started with cheering on the girls for Desert Hills before warming up. Then we warmed up 2 miles, during the two miles I was super nervous because I have never ran a 2 mile race before and if it was two miles it was when I was a kinderfesh and it was cross country so I was nervous for the reasons shown. As we came back from the warmup we got to the field and the first race of the girls was coming to a close. And the second one started. We cheered on the Schimbecks as we began calisthenics and strides. I went to get a sticker and looked at the heat sheet and saw that I was projected 11th in the race. I was so discombobulated that I didn't get a sticker until the race was minutes from starting. When we were being placed on the line I was standing one spot behind Alex Hill and as the gun shot he was of and I was somewhat in the back with Tanner Sharp and I could hear President Coach John Powell saying "Stick on Tanner Bryson!" I guess you could say that that was my game plan. As he moved up, I moved up. It slowly went on like that for the first mile in which my split was dead on what I was looking for 5:04. From here the "keeping up with Tanner" really began. On the 7th lap I noticed that we were coming up on Eric Lambert from Cedar and further ahead of him was Bronco and Spencer from Dixie. Eventually we hit the last lap and off goes Tanner. It was like I had lost my front tire I didn't know what to do except for chase it down. I hit the last 200m of the race and was too far off to catch anyone but I could prevent being caught and even cut down time. The quote that I thought of was surprisingly from Eminem "if you had one chance to seize everything you ever wanted? Would you take it or just let it slip?" I chase down the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, although I didn't catch any of them I was close to Spencer and was relived that the race was over.

Great race Bryson. 10:06 for your first ever 3200 is extremely impressive.
